Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Hybrid- NYC (3+ days in office required)

Type: Full-time W-2 employee, subject to a 90-day introductory period

About the Role

Aviary is growing fast, and we're hiring our first dedicated infrastructure engineer, a hands-on role reporting directly to our CDO. You'll wear three hats: you'll write code, you'll own and maintain our infrastructure, and you'll be the technical point of contact for our enterprise customers' IT teams.

What You'll Own

Code

• Write production code to build internal tooling, integrations, and infrastructure automation
• Contribute to backend services where infrastructure and application code intersect
• Build and maintain the integration code that connects Aviary to customer systems — including API integrations, webhook delivery, and data ingestion pipelines (e.g., SFTP file processing)

Infrastructure

• Architect, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure on AWS (primary), with limited presence on GCP and Azure
• Manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), containerized workloads (Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure-as-code
• Introduce database redundancy, multi-region hosting, and reliability improvements as we scale
• Own cost, performance, and security across the stack

Customer IT

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for enterprise customers' IT teams
• Lead onboarding and setup for SAML SSO, OIDC, and SFTP integrations
• Answer customer IT questions on infrastructure, security, networking, and integrations
• Partner with customer security teams on reviews and compliance questions
• Translate customer requirements into engineering work and represent customer needs internally

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, infrastructure, or platform engineering role
• Strong coding ability in at least one production language (Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar) — comfortable shipping application code, not just scripts
• Deep hands-on expertise with AWS; working familiarity with GCP and/or Azure
• Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar)
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and GitHub Actions in production
• Hands-on experience setting up SAML SSO, OIDC, and SFTP for enterprise customers
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, VPCs, firewalls)
• Excellent customer-facing communication — comfortable leading technical conversations with enterprise IT and security teams
• Proven ability to operate as a senior IC — owning systems end-to-end with minimal oversight

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in a customer-facing engineering role (solutions architect, integration engineer, sales engineer, or similar)
• Experience supporting AI/ML workloads or self-hosted model infrastructure
• Security or compliance experience (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA)
• Background in early-stage or high-growth SaaS environments

Interview Process

• Initial Call: 15–30 minute intro call with our co-founder/CEO to get to know each other. 

• Hiring Manager Call: 30 minute call with the hiring manager.  

• Technical Call & Coding Challenge: Meet with our dev team. You’ll submit a link to a recent project, walk us through the code and your logic, and make a small change live. We’ll schedule a 1-hour session with the engineering team — including our co-founder/CTO, who is the hiring manager — to go through your approach. 

• Final Interview: 30 minute call/in-person meeting with our founders (CEO, CTO, COO, and Head of Data).
